Question of the week: Why clockwise and counterclockwise?

I found an interesting question the other day as the reason  you go clockwise (deiseil or sunwise) when building, growing, or invoking, while you go counter-clockwise (widdershins) to whither, break down, and banish the circle. Its simple; The clockwise direction was how the sun revolved around a sundial.

The sun brightens and grows stronger clockwise.
