I’m a 46 year old wife and mother, as well as organizer of a local Wiccan Meetup group (and writer’s meetup). I’ve helped organized two study groups in the past, as well as co-organized a coven. My role served as more of an advisor than anything else.
I found myself a born-again Christian when I was around 10 years old or so, but found the religion didn’t offer answers as much as the revolting idea that I needed to be unquestioning in my faith, and obedient to God. No thank you.
I studied Satanism for a short time, but also found it didn’t provide me answers or felt right to my spirituality.
By the time I was 14 years old, I read the book Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler, and found myself agreeing with so many of the beliefs of the pagan religions. It felt like coming home.
I’ve read, studied, practiced, and celebrated my spiritualism, incorporating Taoism, Buddhism, Native American, and other tribal beliefs into my eclectic belief system.
My basic beliefs are;
-I do not agree with the ‘An it harm none’ believing that if someone crosses me, I am well entitled to retaliate in kind. This doesn’t mean I attack unprovoked, however, and I seek to find balance in my life, without animosity.
-I do not agree with the Threefold Law of Return. That just doesn’t work in the natural world. Although its wonderful to spread joy and goodwill towards everyone, it doesn’t mean I’ll get it in return- as Life has taught me.
-I believe in the natural world as the best teacher. Balance in all things is important.
-I believe all religious beliefs are between you and the Divine, and no one else. This mean you do not need a coven to be a witch.
-I believe everyone needs to take responsibility for their spirituality, their accomplishments , and their mistakes.
-I believe whatever moral choices you decide are for you alone. If you believe being a vegetarian is important, that’s fine, but do not think it’s the one, true way. Allow for others to make their choices, their mistakes, and their decisions.
